IDP Education: Canada the most appealing international student destination according to new survey
A study by IDP Education showed that Canada is the top destination of choice for international students, and that 63% of students say post-study work is the main factor in where they choose to study.
The availability of a post-study work visa was a majorconsideration for 61% of students.
Students see Canada as a welcoming, affordable, and safe placeto study with good work opportunities available upon graduation. Further, 53%consider the employment opportunities available after graduation as a topconsideration when selecting a destination.
International students in Canada are allowed to work up to 20hours a week during the academic year.
Post-Graduation Work Permits
International students can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) to gain experience living and working in Canada. This permit is valid for up to three years.
International students were less interested in the length of their post-study work rights, and more interested in gaining relevant experience to ease their entry into the job market.
Why does Canada need international students?
Statistics Canada shows that immigrants with Canadian study experience are younger, more educated, more likely to speak an official language and much more likely to have pre-admission earnings in Canada than immigrants who did not study in Canada.
